Volunteer HQ

The Nixon School has a proud history of strong parent volunteerism.  Giving of your time, talents and energies to Nixon directly benefits you, our children, the school and the PTO.  The additional manpower and the funds our volunteer force generates make so much of what Nixon provides to our children possible.  In fact, many of the things your children will remember most about their time at Nixon are made possible through the volunteer force harnessed by the PTO.  Please review the wide range of volunteer opportunities highlighted below and find the best way for you to contribute.

Please be sure to read the Volunteer Agreement, and keep your CORI form up-to-date (must be renewed every 3 years).

COMMITTEE OPENINGS

The Nixon PTO has over 35 committees.  Committee work offers a wide range of volunteer opportunities: once a year events such as our Parent Social and Auction, Monster Mash and Science Fair, once a year projects such as Directory, Square One Art or Picture Day, or ongoing projects with work spanning the school year such as Food Pantry, Teacher Appreciation and Yearbook.  There are roles that are ideal for full-time working parents, part time working parents and stay-at-home parents - literally something for everyone!

View our PTO Committee Descriptions to find more detailed information about each committee.

EVENT OPENINGS

It takes many volunteers to ensure the dozens of events the PTO sponsors each year are a success.  In fact, Monster Mash alone requires close to 100 volunteers to run!  Event volunteers may donate goods for a Bake Sale, help with event set up or clean up, act as greeters, or manage a station for a short shift during an event.

GRADE-LEVEL OPENINGS

Depending on the grade level and teacher, individual classroom teachers may need help in the classroom for reading, math or writing workshops, field trips, mystery readers, Curriculum Crafts, Festivals, and other special activities.  In addition, each grade relies on volunteers to help with Library and Lunch/Recess duty.  Volunteering at the grade level or in the classroom is a wonderful way to get a close up view of your child’s Nixon experience.

All Grades: Please consider volunteering for Library (Overview - Schedule) and/or Lunch and Recess Duty (Volunteer Sign Up).
