Treasurer’s Report
Most major fundraisers have been conducted, with a year-to-date total of $28,525. The full-year forecast is 80% attained. We still have Bingo Night, our new Mexican Fiesta Auction Parents Night Out and the General John’s March remaining. The only change to revenue was a $211 check from Amazon.com. Invoices were paid for music class recorders and math books, but the PTO hopes to be reimbursed for these costs. We continue to collect revenue for the yearbook/DVD but no expenses have been paid. Net Income is $37,779, which is 78% attained.
Co-President’s Report
The group of towns belonging to EDCO will be offering a Summer Math Academy for children entering grades 3-8 next year. This will run from July 9-August 3 from 8am-12pm . It will offer challenging and enriching math instruction, with time for physical exercise. They will be accepting a total of 90 children, using a lottery system. The Wings of Wisdom breakfast is put on by the 4th grade class for the 5th grade class each year. They are looking for 4th grade parents to run this event. The Nixon staff and administration were very appreciative of the cakes they received as a thank you for their support and care of our children during the L-S crisis. The Teacher’s Appreciation Luncheon will be May 9th and they will be looking for parent donations. PTO Committee openings for next year will be available shortly. The Nominations Committee helps to find people who might be interested in chairing a PTO committee. The Nominations Committee is looking for representatives from kindergarten and 3rd grade. There are two Principal Coffees coming up. Joni Jay will talk about Student Behavior on March 27 from 7:00-8:15 pm. She will discuss Class Placement after the PTO meeting on April 5 at approximately 9:45 am. All PTO chairs who would like to make an announcement during School Meeting must make arrangements with Liz Whitely. Please be sure to let her know how much time you will need. The PTO Corner, located in the cafeteria, is full of office supplies for the PTO to use. However, this area is not meant for any long-term storage, as it is a fire hazard.
Science and Math Fair
The Science and Math Fair will be held Thursday March 15. There are approximately 200 children signed up. There will be a science quest activity for all children who attend the fair (whether they did an experiment or not). If they complete the quest, their name will appear on the bulletin board. They are still looking for more volunteers.
Website
They have been researching digital cameras and have decided to purchase HP Photo Smart cameras. These are small, point-and-shoot cameras that come with a docking station which will make it easy to upload pictures. They will buy 7 cameras, one for each grade level and one for the administration.
Yearbook/Slideshow
They are still in need of pictures, especially of 1st and 3rd graders.
Town Meeting
It is very important that you vote to approve the budget override at the polls on March 26 and again at Town Meeting on April 4. Our children’s education will be dramatically impacted if the override does not pass.
The next meeting will be April 5 at 9:00 am.
