Co - Presidents Newsletter

PTO NEWS:

Science Fair: A Big Thank you to Anne Hincks and Marj Lustig this years Science Fair Co Chairs and the entire Science Fair Committee Emily Fagan, Dawn Law, Sandy and David Block, Emily Epstein, Mary Toland, Joyce Minkoff, Heather MacLean, Debbie and Mike Pullen who worked very hard organizing, and planning another successful Science Fair. Thanks to Amy Durkin, Meghan Ward, Janet Jennings, Erin Collins, Leslie Dooley and Rich Donaldson who all helped promoting and organizing this exciting event!

Nixon Gala “Drawing Together”: The Nixon Gala was a very successful evening.  Many Thanks to the Nixon Gala Committee Holly Bernene, Mollie Wolin, Melissa Winters and Tammy Koenig.  As you entered for the evening, you were welcomed to a beautifully decorated Charter Oaks with the precious artwork of all the students at Nixon.  The “Giving Tree” was a huge success with over 50 items purchased or just under $4,000. worth of classroom supplies which were requested by the teachers and staff at Nixon.. The "Cash Call", in the past we were able to purchase DVD Players for 2007, Active Boards for 2008 and for this year we asked Joni Jay what was most needed at Nixon and Laptops were the main priority.  Our goal was 10 Laptops, due to the successful Cash Call at the Gala and from donors who have since donated we are at an unbelievable $13,000 or 14 Laptops. Phenomenal!   Nixon School still could use more, computers and laptops are getting old and due to the Technology Budget cuts they will not be replacing them.  For those of you who are interested in purchasing an item off the Giving Tree or would like to make a donation to Laptops email either Michelle michellebabikian@aol.com or Ellen joachimfamily@comcast.net.

Food Pantry: The next collection will be the week of April 13-17, 2009. Our goal this week 1000 items. If every student brings in 2 items we can achieve this goal.

Box Tops for Education!  We have made our First BOX TOP Goal. Thank you to all the families that have submitted the overwhelming total of 9,244 Box Tops.  This translates to about $900. to be donated to the PTO.  Help them earn a second extra recess by collecting 2,600 more box tops by sending in those Box tops that you have already clipped and saved.  Any questions please contact Stacey Danziger.

Yearbook and DVD CommitteeDo you like taking pictures? Have pictures you would like to share. Have experience in making DVDS.  The Yearbook and DVD Committee Needs you! If that’s you, please contact one of the co chairs Sandy Block, Gretchen Findlay or Lauren Hochberg.

Lunch and Recess Volunteers: Parents may volunteer as frequently as their schedules allows. For example, once per month, once per week and once every other week are common shifts.  We are looking to fill out the schedule from April to June. Please contact either Lisa Davis or Susan Brown if interested.

Next on the Agenda, was cleaning out the PTO Shed there will be a day set up in May to declutter and organize.

UPCOMING PTO EVENTS:

B-I-N-G-O:   Bingo Night is scheduled for Friday, May 1st! We are looking for a few donations:  for Bingo Prizes if you have any leftover party favors from your sons or daughters last birthday we could use those! Just drop them off in the PTO Corner labeled Bingo Night. Or if you are interested in donating something to a small or super raffle please email michellebabikian@aol.comThe Bingo Website is up and running, please don’t forget to sign up to volunteer or donate baked goods. To have a successful Bingo Night it requires a lot of volunteers!

The next PTO meeting scheduled for the month of May will be Thursday, May 14th at 9:15 in the Nixon Cafeteria.  Some items on the Agenda will be the remaining budget, future fundraising and Committee Co Chair Openings.  All are encouraged and welcomed to attend.

We also would like to once again thank the hundred - plus Nixon Families who have donated to our Direct Appeal this fall; to date we have received $13,000. in direct appeal donations.  It is still never too late to give! Please send your donations, payable to the Nixon PTO, to Anna Nicastro, 8 Cortland Lane, Sudbury. Your contributions are still needed to fund programs and events that enhance our children’s education by providing special speakers and presenters.

Thank you to everyone who has been so involved in the Nixon PTO. Without your dedication and commitment we would not be able to accomplish what we do! We are fortunate to have such a great group of parent volunteers.
