Dear parent(s),
Your child has completed his/her first week of fifth grade. I hope each of my students enjoyed it as much as I did! During this week our class has spent time creating a classroom environment that each one of us feels great about being a part of. Ask your child to explain the different greetings used during our class meetings.
Through our class meetings, we have discussed the importance of rules for both physical and emotional safety, and we chose ones that we felt best suited our class needs. Have your child tell you about “Horse”, the fable we read together, and how it relates to our all encompassing “Golden Rule”.
We have completed many activities that helped each of us get to know the other students in our class better. Group, partner and individual work was done this week, as well as a variety of pre-tests and assessments that will allow me to base curriculum instruction to meet the needs of the children in the class. Next week we will dive deeper into the fifth grade curriculum. As the year progresses, please feel free to jot me a note or send an email to let me know your child's feelings about the level of difficulty for both classwork and homework. It will take several weeks for me to get to know each child's capabilities in depth, but I will encourage the students to communicate their individual strengths and weaknesses to me.
Thanks to all who have sent in tissues and wipes...we go through so many a year!
Thank you in advance for your support this year. Enjoy your weekend.
