School Committee Meets at Nixon Wednesday, September 17

The School Committee will hold a their meeting at Nixon School this coming Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.  The agenda will begin with a State of the School presentation from the PTO, the School Advisory Council, and me.  This is a great opportunity to learn about the progress Nixon has made on our goals, hear about the results of the recent parent survey, and learn about current issues.  The remainder of the meeting will be a regular School Committee agenda.  This is an excellent meeting for Nixon parents who are interested in what is happening at Nixon and who would like to get to know our school committee a little better.  We hope to see many of you!

Lunch payment

I strongly urge all parents to consider the online payment for lunch.  I would love to see us become “moneyless” as this greatly streamlines the process for your children getting lunch and reduces their wait in line. 

My Open Hour

I am always available to parents by appointment or email, however, sometimes parents just want a quick informal chat. If this is the case, consider dropping by my Open Hour for parents, Mondays from 9-10 a.m.   Please understand that you may need to wait a few minutes as I talk with other parents, as we use a “first come-first served” system for Open Hour.  (Please check the calendar before coming, as in a rare case I may be scheduled to be elsewhere at this time.)

Changes in Dismissal Plans

Please send in a note for any change in dismissal the morning of the change (or as soon as you know).  We ask that phone calls for changes in dismissal plans only occur in cases of emergency.  Our office staff is unable to handle numerous calls daily requesting changes for play dates and the like.  Please understand that keeping track of 512 children’s whereabouts is a task we take very seriously, and keeping everyone in the loop on the many changes is a challenging task. 

Back to School Night

Nixon’s Back to School Night is October 2.  This is an adult-only evening when you have an opportunity to hear from your child’s classroom teacher about class routines and expectations and meet your child’s other teachers and service providers.  Please book your babysitter now!
