Welcome to the Nixon School's 2019 Science Fair Website.
This year's 17th annual event will be held on Wednesday, April 3rd from 6:00 to 8:15 p.m. The goals of the Science Fair are to explore science, technology, engineering, and math, and to experience the scientific method of discovery.
All Nixon students are welcome and encouraged to participate in the Science Fair, but participation is voluntary. Conducting an experiment at home and displaying your results at the Fair is the best way to participate. There will also be live demonstrations by Mad Science of Greater Boston throughout the evening! We hope you and your family will join us for this fun and educational evening.
So, how do you develop a great project idea? Look at science and math questions that are part of your daily life -- at home, at the playground, at school, in your backyard. Select a topic that interests you and ask some questions about the topic:
Then review the materials on this website and turn those scientific questions into an experiment that even the youngest scientists can do! Projects should be age and grade appropriate, so that each child working on a project can understand and explain the experiment and its outcome.
Please explore the great resources on this website! There are many great project ideas listed as well as internet links if you want other ideas. There is also a link to Nixon's Lifelines - these are adult scientists in the Nixon community who are happy to answer any questions, big or small, about planning or executing your experiment.
We hope you enjoy being scientists and making exciting discoveries about science and math!
