FRIENDSHIP/SOCIAL SKILLS GROUPS
Dear Nixon Parents,
Each year I facilitate a number of friendship/social skills groups. Most groups happen once per week for 8-10 weeks for 25 minutes. Students who attend groups will not miss essential academic instruction because groups are scheduled during small group/differentiated instruction blocks. The fall-winter groups began in October, and they will meet through the beginning of January. I will do another series of groups which will meet from February through May. If your child is in one of these groups please feel free to call me or e-mail me if you would like an update. If you think your child might benefit from such a group please contact me.

BUDDIES
Occasionally, when we are helping a student to settle into school and/or make social connections at school we will have the student invite a classmate (“buddy”) to the guidance/school psychologist office to engage in a game or activity for roughly 15-20 minutes. These “buddy meetings” happen either at lunch time or during the DI block. During these meetings the children will discuss school related topics. Typically the children are happy to visit and ask when it will be their “turn”. Children will not miss essential instruction. If you are not comfortable with your child being a buddy/guest please contact Gail.
