Welcome to the New Nixon PTO Website

The Nixon website commitee has been listening to your requests, and has been very busy this summer implementing a brand new website.  We hope you like it.  This website is a work in progress, so please be patient.  We will be adding new interesting features as time permits.  This website is for you, the Nixon community, so if there is something that you'd like to see on the website, something you'd like to see changed, something removed, etc., please let us know.  We'll do what we can with your feedback to make this site very useful and fun.

To start, there are many exciting new features of the website that you should know about:

  • Parent Quick Links - You'll see these in the left sidebar no matter where you are in the site.  This is a collection of frequently used articles.  If there's something you think should be here, let us know and we'll see if it can be added.
  • Search - Truth be told, while the old site did have a search box, it hasn't really been functioning very well for the past several years.  Search works like a charm now!  However, at present, PDF files aren't indexed, so you can't find an article that is a PDF based on text within the PDF.  We'll try to get that working, and in the meantime, we'll try to use PDF's as infrequently as possible, though they can be great for highly designed content.
  • Archives - You can now look through all the archived content, grouped by the month it was added to the website.
  • Embedded PDF's and External Websites - Used to be, if you clicked on a link to an external website (e.g. Sudbury Public Schools) or a PDF, you would leave the site.  Now we have the ability to add useful "articles" which are actually whole websites or PDF's that show up right within the site.  If you have problems displaying PDF documents in your web browser, or if you're finding that many links are popping up PDF documents outside the webiste, check out this page on the Adobe.com website.
  • Community News automatic updates - The community news items that you see on the front page of the site are automatically updated several times a day.  So, as new community news items show up on the district site, they'll show up here as well.
  • Sudbury Patch - Many people seem to be using Sudbury Patch lately to keep abreast of happenings in Sudbury.  Sudbury Patch news items will now show up on the right sidebar of the website.
  • Related Articles - Whenever you are looking at an article on the website, you'll see a list of related articles (e.g. other PTO Information, other health related articles, etc.) on the left sidebar.
  • Co-chair Submissions - Pretty soon, many people (Joni Jay, PTO co-chairs and others) are going to be able to add and edit their own content on the webiste.  Stay tuned!

Oh, and if you like what we're doing, and would be interesting in helping us out, please drop us a line.  We really need the help.  You don't even have to be that technical (though that would be even better).  And much of what we need help with can be done on your own time and even in your hotel room if you travel!

Enjoy the new website and be sure to vote in the poll! yes
