Nixon End of Year Events/ Calendar

It’s hard to believe that the end of  year is coming so quickly!   To assist you in planning, we have posted a calendar for the remainder of the school year, summer, and beginning of the next school year.  Please keep in mind that the calendar is subject to change and continue to watch my  weekly calendar updates or click on Nixon calendar on our website.   I would particularly like to draw your attention to several important changes:

• The last day of school is now Wednesday, June 24, an early release day.  However, the last day for AM kindergarteners is Tuesday, June 23, as PM kindergarteners will attend the morning of June 24.

• We have planned an exciting School Spirit Day for Friday, June 19.  The morning will consist of an all-school Field Day for grades 1-5.  We will need parent voluteers to help to gather materials, set up, run games, and clean up.  You will be hearing from your child’s room parent soon about how you can help out.  We will have an all-school bag lunch outside together that afternoon.  Students may bring their lunch or purchase a bag lunch at school.  Our day will conclude with a special school meeting during which children will view the DVD highlighting this school year.  The raindate for the morning’s events will be Tuesday, June 22.

• Incoming kindergarters’ first day of school will be September 8.  On either September 1, 2, or 3, your kindergartner will be scheduled for a 2 hour appointment during which he or she will be assessed and become oriented to kindergarten in a smaller group setting.  Children will attend this assessment/orientation in place of the summer visitation that occurred in the past.  Parents will not attend with children, but 20-30 minutes on your child’s appointment day will be set aside for parents who wish to chat with the teacher briefly.
