Hello Families!

Another successful week has flown by! The students are comfortable in the classroom, with each other and the many teachers they have met.  It is wonderful observing their confidence levels rise every day. You can see it in their confident swaggers as they walk in the door.

Last week,  I forgot to introduce the classroom Kindergarten assistant, Mrs. Mackie.  The children know her well but I wanted to make sure you knew who she was in case she was mentioned.  She has worked at Nixon for many years, so some parents may already know her.  In any case, she is a wonderful asset to the Fabulous Faber Friends!

This week...

During math, we sorted people, buttons and attribute shapes.  A math resource packet will be handed out at Open House. If you are unable to attend, let me know, so I can send it home.  This packet is a great resource to understand the various topics covered in each of the seven units of mathematics study.

During reading, we began practicing how to rotate from one literacy center to another.  While three small groups are working on various literacy based activities, I worked with one small group at a time. This week, the small group work focused on beginning letter recognition.

We launched Fundations! I introduced the letter "t" and its sound /t/ like top.

During Handwriting, the children practiced their pinch grip and how to properly form the uppercase letter "T".

During choice time, the computer station was officially opened and being well used.  Approximately, 12-14 of the students are choosing to have a second snack.  I appreciate you sending in an extra snack.  It seems to help them get through the last hour of the day.

The students learned how to spell O-R-A-N-G-E through a song.

We have read many books written by our author of the month- Kevin Henkes.

Next week....

Lucy the Letter Eater will be craving items that start with the letter "t".  A informational letter will be sent home on Friday.

Want ads...

Classroom in need of legos, marble runs, floor puzzles and/or board games (age appropriate)! Please do not buy these items! I was just wondering if you happen to have some that are no longer being used in your homes, the children would appreciate it, especially during rainy, or shall I even mention, snowy indoor recesses.

Funny moment...

I was reading one on one with a student.  She read a lot of books to me and was very proud of herself as was I.  I was complimenting her reading skills, then asked "why didn't you tell me you were such a great reader?" She answered "because you never asked Mrs. Faber!"  Moments like that remind me, on a daily basis, why I love teaching- the kids!

Have a great weekend!
