Second Grade Happenings

*The following questions are a way to inform you about the curriculum that we are working on in class. The questions are meant to generate discussions with your child about some of the classroom activities.
1. What is W.E.B.? What is a "just right book to read?" Are you planning your book to read each week? (All summer reading lists were returned! On Wednesday we all received our reading certificates for outstanding reading over the summer! (This is a Nixon School tradition!)
2. Retell the story of a book you have read recently in school or a book Mrs. Jones shared in class.
3. Talk about one of the routines our class is doing well. What routine do you feel we still need to practice?
4. Name 3 rules that our class discussed and decided as a community at the beginning of the new school year. Why is it important to follow these rules?
5. Explain what a digraph is by using the following words- path sack chick ( Show how you would mark these words.)
6. Did you get a certificate for passing in your Calendar Summer Math work? Did we have an odd or even number of people who received this special recognition certificates? Did you do some math over the summer?
7. What did you write about in your decorated Writer's Notebook?
8. Explain the routine for our class when there is a Fire drill.
9. Share what you like most about 2nd grade so far and why?
10. Explain the number pockets activity we did last week. How close was our estimates? What was the total number of pockets? Do you think we will have more or less pockets next time when we do this activity? Why?
